SCHOOL INDUCTION PROGRAMME

School Induction Programme is a support and guidance provided to the budding teachers in the early stage of their B.Ed course. During the induction period student teachers are send to schools inorder to make them identify, learn, adapt and adjust with the school environment where they are new as teachers. It provides a greater opportunity to the emerging teachers to interact with the students, identify their duties and responsibilities and bring in the aspect of passion and devotion to the respective course.

For my School Induction Programme, the school that was allotted is St Mary's School, Pattom, TVM which is one of the largest schools in Asia in terms of students strength. The programme started on 10th January 2022 and lasted till 15th of the same month. In the one week time we were able to interact with students of different classes, observe classes of experienced teachers, learn about the school environment, engage two periods, serve noon meals and interact with the teachers of the respective school.

The first day of our induction was mixed with excitement as well as  anxiety and it was our first time visiting a school as teachers. We met the Principal and Headmaster and they asked us to watch the school surroundings. On the same day we got the opportunity to serve noon meals to the students which became the most memorable and mesmerizing experience that we had during the induction period. When we went to see the school ground the staffs asked us to help them in serving the meals and we happily joined them. We were eager to meet the children, and suddenly the bell rang along with which a whole bundle of children of smaller classes ran towards us with their respective thalis for the meal, which filled our mind and soul, it was indeed a great sight and we really felt happy in serving them.

The other days started with the discipline duty, substitution period, classes and observation classes. The entire week which we spend there was truly worth it and gave innumerable memories to cherish. As a beginner it really helped us in understanding students and to deal with a classroom. My teacher- in charge Ms Deepa Ma'am really helped me in understanding the class as well as identifying the points in which I need improvement.

The days were enriching and alluring, we were able to understand our duties and responsibilities as a teacher and improve they ways we teach. It is one of the best memories in my B.Ed life!
